Recently we’ve had the Tampa Bay Rays rookies dressing up in Mario Kart costumes as well as the Chicago Cubs rookies dressing as super heroes. The only thing greater is when multiple teams take part on the same day. The rookies from the Miami Marlins dressed up as famous female characters and a random bear, because every group picture needs a bear. Christian Yelich tweeted this picture with no caption because honestly there are no words to describe it....

Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta threw his first-career no-hitter Sunday against the Dodgers, becoming the first Cubs pitcher to do so since Carlos Zambrano in 2008. Then he had a pajama party. Chicago won the game 2-0 on the strength of Kris Bryant’s first-inning home run. But Arrieta stole the show with his cunning pitch selection, which led to a season-high 12 strikeouts and should move him into the driver’s seat to win the NL Cy Young award....

A recent message posted to the official MLB The Show Twitter account confirmed that developer Sony San Diego was aware of the 11th Inning Showdown vouchers. At the time, San Diego told players that they were still able to complete the 11th Inning Showdown and collect vouchers, they just couldn’t be redeemed. Hours after that message, San Diego confirmed that server maintenance for MLB The Show 21 would be done Saturday to fix the issue....

Until recently, the only elite team sport leagues that managed to successfully return have been in soccer: among them the Bundesliga, Premier League and La Liga in Europe, NWSL here in the United States. Major League Soccer launched its attempt this week with the MLS is Back Tournament. Braces from Miguel Almiron and Kevin Kratz saw Atlanta to a 4-1 win over the Montreal Impact. Montreal took a surprise lead in the 13th minute, Saphir Taider heading in the opener. The Impact held onto that advantage until the final 20 minutes, when Atlanta struck four times. Almiron netted a penalty after a handball in the area before Kratz curled in a wonderful 25-yard free kick. After Almiron completed his brace, Kratz produced from another free kick to seal Atlanta’s win and move the club two points clear atop the Eastern Conference....

Lamah needed just 31 minutes to score a hat trick at Toyota Stadium, setting up Dallas’ 6-2 thrashing of Real Salt Lake. The Belgian opened the scoring in the eighth minute, tapping in a cross from Michael Barrios at the back post. USA names 40-man Gold Cup squad Lamah doubled the lead midway through the half, finishing calmly after receiving a pass from Maximiliano Urruti. Just after the half-hour mark, he had his hat trick after being played in behind by Carlos Gruezo....

One team in particular, the Orioles, saw something they didn’t like when evaluating their depth chart, because they are entertaining numerous possibilities. Madden opted out of his contract with the Rays in October. A few days later, he signed a five-year, $25 million deal to manage the Cubs. MLB launched an investigation in early November to determine if the Cubs had tampered with Maddon by contacting him while he was still under contract with the Rays. Five months later, that investigation is still in progress. New MLB Rob Manfred said in February he hoped to have the investigation completed by the start of the season....

If the Nationals beat the Cubs and move on to face the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series, a lot of people — and I mean a lot — will claim that the franchise has finally gotten over the postseason hump and finally won a playoff series. Tigers fans waited in bated breath as Justin Verlander took the mound in the top of the ninth inning against the Angels on Wednesday. Verlander was three outs away from his third-career no-hitter, facing the bottom of Los Angeles’ lineup. But his no-hit bid came to a screeching halt when Chris Iannetta lined a rope over third base. The ball landed on the chalk in left field and rolled all the way to the wall....

Toronto has acquired righty Nick Kingham from the Pirates for cash considerations, the team announced Thursday. Kingham, 27, has a 9.87 ERA in 14 appearances (four starts) for the Pirates this season. He has struck out 32 batters in 34 2/3 innings pitched. “Words can’t express how thankful I am to the entire Pirates Organization,” Kingham wrote on Twitter. “They gave me the opportunity to live out my dream and for that, I am forever grateful....

Keuchel was pitching in an MLB game for the first time since last year’s American League Championship series. His debut lasted five innings as he gave up eight hits and three earned runs while striking out three. Once Keuchel shakes off the rust, he will hopefully live up to the expectations Atlanta had when it signed the lefty to help cement its place in the National League East. The Braves, who built a small cushion at the top of the division, still hold a 4 1/2 game advantage over the second-place Phillies....

MLS released its 2017 regular season schedule Thursday, with the league taking a break from July 7-18 during the group stage of the Gold Cup. The hiatus is similar to the breaks the league has taken for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Copa America Centenario. Chargers to share StubHub Center with LA Galaxy The league also will feature a light schedule during FIFA dates in March, June, September and October, as just 10 matches total will be played over the course of those four international breaks....
