Gregorius was tasked with the difficult assignment of replacing Derek Jeter to start the season. Of course, expectations were reasonable for the 25-year-old, but performances like this reminds everyone what he’s capable of....

Bautista was one of four players who received suspensions. Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor, who punched Bautista in the jaw to set off the fracas, received an eight-game ban. Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus was given a game for his actions during the fight, and Blue Jays reliever Jesse Chavez was suspended three games for intentionally hitting Texas’ Prince Fielder an inning after the brawl. Arthur Blank, owner of the Atlanta Falcons, will bring soccer to the Georgia city with the new club set to play in the Falcons' new 65,000-seat stadium. "We are going to build a first-class organization on and off the field that will be a source of pride for the entire community, and we believe our downtown stadium will become a destination for soccer fans throughout the Southeast for many years to come....

Pedro Morales put the hosts ahead with a penalty in the 25th minute at BC Place Stadium, with early substitute Oniel Fisher having fouled Alphonso Davies inside the area. Osvaldo Alonso equalized with six minutes to go in the first half, getting on the end of a cross from Joevin Jones. Vancouver goal-scorer Morales went from hero to villain eight minutes into the second half, receiving a straight red card for an elbow on Cristian Roldan....

It has been a while since either team has looked like a legitimate title contender, and this year isn’t much different. The Galaxy looked like they might turn things around with the signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but instead find themselves struggling again. Last Monday’s win in Montreal, which came down a man after Ibrahimovic’s red card, should provide the Galaxy with some momentum. It will also mean having to play without Ibrahimovic for the first time since his memorable arrival....

That’s how awful a 2017 season the Galaxy had — a campaign so terrible that they are still washing off the stink, even though the Galaxy spent the winter revamping their roster as impressively as any team in the league. Last week’s season-opening win against the Portland Timbers showed us a much-improved Galaxy squad, but the victory wasn’t enough to earn them a title contender label. A win Sunday, however, could do just that....

To date, there are only 10 players on each team that are known to be part of the 33-player teams. The nine starters were announced Friday, and commissioner Rob Manfred announced legendary sluggers Miguel Cabrera and Albert Pujols will be on each roster as special selections. The reserves will be selected by player ballot and commissioner’s office selections. There will likely be 11 more batters named to each team and 12 pitchers to round out the 23 spots on each team....

There should be a lot of balls flying out of Chase Field today as the Cubs begin a four-game set at Arizona, not only because the Cubs and DBacks stacked lineups can smoke the ball, but also because of the starting pitchers are coming off of springs where they were hit often. John Lackey, who had an ERA of 1.93 at home and 3.82 on the road last season, got slapped around during spring giving up 10 runs in 13 innings....
