Price, 28, still has two seasons left before he can become a free agent, so the small-market Rays are likely to move the 2012 AL Cy Young winner now to get maximum return.

So what team is likely to end up with the three-time All-Star? Here is the latest scuttlebutt:

• The Los Angeles Angels, in need of starting pitching after a disappointing 2013 (they were fifth worst in the AL in terms of runs allowed and ERA), could be a good fit. The Halos are looking to deal slugger Mark Trumbo, who would give the Rays a much-needed injection of power, and slick-fielding CF Peter Bourjos. L.A. also may be willing to trade 2B Howie Kendrick, according to the Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo.

But the key to a potential Rays/Angels deal could be RHP Garrett Richards, 25, a former Angels first-round pick, reports Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com. Richards has a 4.42 ERA in 84 games (29 starts) over the last three seasons and is considered a possible future big league ace.

• The other Los Angeles team, the Dodgers, is interested in Price as well. But they "appear to have a full house with Clayton Kershaw (who could sign a $300 million deal this offseason), Zack Greinke, Hyun-jin Ryu, Stephen Fife, and comebacking Josh Beckett and Chad Billingsley," Cafardo writes.

• The Philadelphia Phillies "have gone so far as to kick around a trade for Price," according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com. The team likely would have to part with top pitching prospect Jesse Biddle and possibly slugging OF Domonic Brown to get a deal done.

But GM Ruben Amaro Jr. knows his team has plenty of needs after an 89-loss season and thus is "unlikely to go all-in on a trade for Price," Rosenthal writes.

• The Washington Nationals are looking to add elite pitching through the trade market, Rosenthal says.

• The St. Louis Cardinals lack a left-handed starter and have deep well of young talent to offer up in a trade.

• The Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners all are said to have varying degrees of interest in Price.

Price, 28, was 10-8 with a 3.33 ERA and a 1.098 WHIP in 2013.
